Here is the note in its entirety:
Dear Solon Schools’ families:
With the tragic events occurring in Chardon this morning, we wanted to communicate with you as a reminder that the district has extensive crisis plans in place to respond in emergency situations. Several aspects of those plans automatically kicked into place this morning. For example, the was in touch with us immediately and officers were dispatched to the and throughout the district.
Our crisis planning is done in conjunction with our Solon safety forces and police presence around all of our schools is a part of those plans. The Solon Police Department trains in our buildings during the summer and the Department in an integral part of the lockdown drills we conduct in the schools on a regular basis. Each building in the district as already conducted at least one lockdown drill already this year.
The safety of our students and staff are at the heart of this crisis planning. In case of any emergency, on-the-spot decisions would be made by law enforcements officials. Updates and information for parents would be communicated immediately.
This is a good opportunity to ensure that your email and emergency contact information is up-to-date with your child’s school. In addition, if you or you child ever hear anything of concern that could impact the safety of other students, please do not hesitate in reporting that information to the school principal or to Joe Regano directly. For those who felt they had to remain anonymous, please utilize the Safe School Helpline at (800) 418-6423, ext. 359.
