Solon PTA Budget Bin Sale Begins

Giant consignment sale raises money for scholarships

Madness for a good cause.

That's one way to describe Solon Council of PTA's Spring Budget Bin Sale, a giant consignment sale beginning Thursday at Parkside Elementary and runs through Tuesday.

Here's how it works, direct from Suzi Castiglione, budget bin's chairwoman:

Today, hundreds of consignors will flock to Parkside's gym to put their goods -- everything you can imagine -- up for sale. If an item sells, the consignor gets half the proceeds and the other half goes to theΒ PTA's Lois Gazeley Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for Solon High School seniors.

Last year, $34,000 was raised for scholarships, Castiglione said.

The sale, which begins 10 a.m. Thursday, is great bargain-hunting opportunity. Nearly anything you can imagine will be there, from gently used clothing to household items to sporting goods. Looking for a prom dress? Last year, a girl visiting from West Virginia bought two new prom dresses for $10 to $15 each.

There's also the chance to find some rare curiosities. In the past the sale has had items for sale such as a grandfather clock and old photography equipment.

To see the full schedule, check out the PDF attached to this story. Note that Saturday and Monday are sale days, with an extra 30 percent taken off at the cash register.

Tuesday, the last day of the sale, is $5 bag day. It's exactly what it sounds like: You get a bag and can fill it with as much stuff as you can fit, all for $5.

Anything not sold is donated to charity.
