Solon Hires New Boys Basketball Coach

The contract for the new coach was approved Monday by the Solon School Board.

Mike Ark, a Northeast Ohio native who has been teaching and coaching in North Carolina, is the new boys basketball coach at .

Ark replaces Bob Patton, who after only one season as coach.

Ark will be a physical education teacher and coach the basketball team. Principal Erin Short had said that she wanted to hire a coach who would also teach at the school.

He has been teaching and coaching at Jacksonville High School in North Carolina.

“Ohio is where I’m from,” Ark told the Jacksonville Daily News. “I’ll be moving to about 25 minutes from the house I grew up at. I found a job there and it gives me a chance to be closer to my family and to coach."

Ark's contract was approved at Monday's board meeting.

Superintendent Joe Regano said Ark was a good choice for the role.

"He's been a successful basketball coach," Regano said. "He understands relationships, he understands students and understands what it takes to win. I think we're going to be very happy with Mike."
