What is the proper way to fund schools in Ohio?

That's one of the big questions of our days, as the state wrestles with an $8 billion budget hole and tries to figure out a way to ensure that each student receives a quality education.

Last week, the Southeast Republicans held a forum on school funding, featuring an education policy official from the state, Solon school officials, a number of state representatives and other experts.

Today, we feature Jim Betts, a former Ohio representative, who provided a brief summary of school funding in Ohio.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: Betts gives his opinion on Gov. John Kasich's education budget. Barbara Mattei-Smith responds.

Wednesday: Mattei-Smith explains the governor's thinking when he developed the education budget.

Thursday: Solon Superintendent Joe Regano and Treasurer Tim Pickana give their opnions on the budget proposal, and how it has changed since Kasich introduced it.

Friday: Ohio Rep. Marlene Anielski, who represents Solon, discusses her views on the education budget.
