Music In Motion Presents 'An Evening of Vocal Jazz'

Solon High's show choir Music in Motion welcomes Afro Blue to its event on Nov. 2.

Be a part of the vocal craze that is sweeping the nation as Solon High School’s Music in Motion Presents ‘An Evening of Vocal Jazz’. Solon High School’s Show Choir, Music In Motion, is hosting a benefit concert featuring Afro Blue, Howard University’s premiere vocal jazz ensemble on Friday, Nov. 2 at
7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 33600 Inwood Road.

Tickets for the benefit are $18 for advanced reserved seating; general admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets will be sold at Mitchell's Ice Cream (6130 Kruse Drive, Solon) and at the door. Advance Reserved seats ticket forms are available at facebook.com/solonshowchoir.

Afro Blue was featured during the 2011 season of NBC’s reality competition show “The Sing Off.” This brilliant group is an on-going vocal jazz ensemble at Howard University with continuing revolving personnel as students graduate and new students enter the program. They have been described as a “vocal big band” singing unique versions of music in styles similar to Lambert, Hendricks and Ross; Manhattan Transfer; The New York Voices and Take 6.

This ensemble has received nine Down Beat Magazine Student Music Awards.
Sharing the stage with Afro Blue that night will be A Capella Groups from four area high schools: North Olmsted High School’s Special Edition, Medina High School’s Churchills and Sirens, Nordonia High School’s Synergy, Solon High School’s Madrigals.

Solon High School’s Show Choir Music in Motion will also give a sneak preview of its 2013 competition show.

Music in Motion is under the direction of Gary Lewis. Mr. Lewis is the vocal director for Solon High School. Before teaching in Solon, Mr. Lewis sang professionally with Disney’s acclaimed vocal ensemble, The Voices of Liberty.

"Contemporary A Cappella has hit the main stream of popular culture," Lewis said. "Afro Blue represents all that is right in this exploding genre."

Founded in 1985, Music in Motion is Solon High School's award winning show choir. For over 25 years MIM has been entertaining audiences with its high energy shows. This award-winning ensemble has performed in festivals and competitions in Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and Florida, earning top honors in vocal performance, best instrumental combo, show design, outstanding soloists and best choreography.

MIM was the Grand Champion in every competition they participated in during the 2012 season.
