Five Students From Solon Named U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates

Four Solon High School students and one Solon resident who attends University School were named U.S. Presidential Scholar candidates.

Four Solon High School students and one Solon resident who attends University School were named as 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar candidates, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors.

The four Solon High candidates are Rohan K. Achar, Aditya Nair, Stephen H. Tang and Thomas Y. Yi, according to a list of candidates posted on the U.S. Presidential Scholars web site.

Solon resident Carlson Zou, who attends University School, was also named as a candidate.

The five students were picked from a pool of thousands of students across the U.S. named as candidates in the annual Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors. Application to the program is by invite only, and based on ACT and SAT scores.

In the end, mo more than 141 will be selected as scholars by a commission appointed by President Barack Obama. The students should learn if they are chosen in May.
