Solon High School seniors play dodgeball against teachers to raise money to fight Lou Gehrig's Disease

Turns out, the Solon High School seniors had something to teach their teachers.

Granted, they used a bit of chicanery to do it, but seniors defeated the high school faculty Friday in an epic clash of dodgeball, that most ruthless of playground games.

Beyond the trash talking and rubber-ball welts, the game was played for a good cause. Students paid $2 to attend the game. That money went to the Dave Yates Foundation, which raises money to fight ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Yates was a popular teacher at the high school who died of ALS about 10 years ago.

His parents, Tom and Nancy Yates, attended the game to accept a $2,500 check from the student council on behalf of the foundation.

Tom Yates told the students he always looks forward to the dodgeball game.

"We've never been hit by a ball yet, but we've come close," he said.
