Band Bash This Saturday: Support the Solon Marching Band

Tickets for the Band Bash on Sept. 8 at Solon High School are $6 at the gate, $5 if bought early at Mitchell's Ice Cream.

The Solon Music Parents is doing its part to help end the drought in Northeast Ohio.

Yes, it's staging another Band Bash. Given the remarkably strong correlation between Solon Band Bash and torrential downpours, the sixth annual fund raiser to support Solon's instrumental music program offers the community a great win-win opportunity: an evening of such quality, family-friendly entertainment that even rain can't dampen the enthusiasm and a prediction for much-needed precipitation that rivals the accuracy of any weather forecaster, Farmer's Almanac or woolly worm.

In the off-chance that it doesn't rain? Well, the show will go on.

Neither rain, nor heat, nor even snow (it is Northeast Ohio, after all) will keep the student performers from their appointed routines.

And what a show it will be. Nine bands -- totaling about 1,100 students -- will take to Stewart Field at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 8. (The football field's artificial turf means no mud on uniforms; we know this from years of experience.)

Bands from Bedford, Chardon, James A. Garfield, Hudson, Maple Heights, Shaw, Streetsboro, West Geauga, Windham and Solon high schools will show off their instrumental interpretations of rock classics, popular hits, rhythm and blues ballads, and jazz fusion.

Like this summer's send-up "Rock of Ages," the Band Bash 2012 play list is a tip-of-the-hat to the 1980s, but the show will also feature familiar tunes from other musical eras and today. Think of the performances as Twisted Sister meets Lady Gaga.

Entertainment like that doesn't happen every day. And given the large number of performers this year, we're expecting a sell-out crowd of music enthusiasts, rain or no rain. Buy your tickets now and receive $1 off the gate price. Tickets are available for advance purchase at Mitchell's Ice Cream in Solon and before and after the Solon band's evening practices.Β

Proceeds from Band Bash support the Solon Schools' instrumental music programs and will contribute toward this year's goal of purchasing new uniforms for more than 250 Solon High School band members.

So don't miss this chance to support student performers and the local schools -- and maybe even ensure the region gets some much-needed rain.
