Solon's Strengths

  • Great Schools: By far, residents considered the quality of Solon Schools as the city's most overwhelming strength. 256 residents, 87 percent of respondents, said the school district was a top strength.
  • Excellent City Services: Residents surveyed say the Solon Police Department, Solon Fire Department and Solon Service Department all provide excellent services. Residents felt positive about basically all of the city's offerings.
  • Quality Housing: Residents believe Solon has a great housing stock, everything from the quality and choice of housing to the price.

Other Strengths: Safety, Diversity, Parks

Solon's Weaknesses

  • Poor Shopping: Residents hate Solon's shopping and retail options. This was their number one complaint. Residents say there are too many empty store fronts, have "poor appearance" and lack grocery store options. City officials clearly agree this is a problem, and have been to town.
  • Traffic Congestion: Anyone who has tried to drive down SOM Center Road at rush hour, or waited in the light at SOM and Aurora roads, knows that Solon does have some traffic problems.
  • Bad Restaurant Choices: Solon has , but residents still think the city has too few options with too many chain places and not enough unique dining experiences.

Other Weakness: No Town Center, High Taxes, Local Government
