State Fund That Feeds Local Government Coffers Slashed in Kasich's Budget

Solon receives more than $400,000 a year from Ohio's Local Government Fund. How that will be impacted by proposed dramatic cuts are yet to be seen

Gov. John Kasich's budget proposal would slash payouts to local governments by 25 percent in 2012 and 50 percent in 2013.

If the governor's plan is approved as is, local governments in Ohio would lose $167.1 million in 2012 and $388.2 million in 2013 in funding from the state's Local Government Fund.

It's unclear right now how much Solon would lose under the governor's proposed budget. The city receives more than $400,000 from the state's Local Government Fund every year.

For example, Solon's 2011 budget projects receiving $430,000 from the fund, according to the . That's a bit more than 1 percent of the city's general fund budget, which is mainly funded through income tax receipts.
