Northwestern University (M.A. Speech, 1983)
Cleveland Marshall College of Law (J.D., 1991)

Political Affiliation: Democrat

Office Sought: Solon Board of Education

Previous Political Office Sought or Held: Ran for Cuyahoga County Council, District 6 in 2010; sought appointment to Solon School Board in 2007; sought appointment to Solon City Council in 2009.

Candidate Statement: The Solon School District has been well-run, but, like other school districts, faces serious challenges in the next few years; state budget cuts, other revenue losses if the economy does not improve, changes in labor laws that will affect teachers, possible retirement of the superintendent, lowered enrollment, changing population demographics, an expected influx of students with disabilities coming into the district. I have qualifications and experiences that make me well-suited to address these challenges; I have children in the Solon schools, including two children with disabilities; I am an attorney, and as an attorney I have represented parents and students (especially students with disabilities) in disputes with other school districts all over the state, so I am aware of best and worst practices regarding treatment of students and parents.

I have also represented teachers and other staff-members in employment disputes. People trust me with their most difficult, important and personal problems. I am a good listener and a problem-solver and I approach disputes diplomatically and I know how to work cooperatively with others to resolve tough issues.

But I also fight for what I believe in. I will use my experience as a parent and attorney to be a voice for parents and students and to help Solon avoid the pitfalls of other school districts and to maintain its outstanding educational opportunities for its students in the challenging years ahead.
