Safety Officials to Discuss Deer, U.S. 422 Barriers at Meeting Tonight

The safety committee meets at Solon City Hall at 6 p.m. tonight.

The Solon safety committee plans to discuss tonight concerns with the newly built traffic barriers along U.S. 422.

City council members are protesting the barriers because they believe they have made the highway . The barriers are built only a few feet from the inside lanes, making it impossible for cars to pull off on that side or avoid a collision in front of them.

The committee is also set to discuss the city's deer culling efforts, which are now moving forward after an anti-hunting ordinance was earlier this month.

Specifically, the committee will discuss bidding out for a contract to process the deer meat harvested from the culling efforts. Solon plans to donate the meet to area hunger shelters.

The safety committee holds its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at .

I was shopping in Bainbridge last night and saw deer in the parking lot behind Marshall's. Let's get real now and figure out how to make driving safe for everyone!

Did you call 911? We certainly can't have deer loitering in delivery areas with large wooded areas adjacent to them. Or were you perhaps refering to "driving" as in golf, since Signature's golf course is on the other side of those woods and your afraid that the deer might spoil your shot. Safe driving starts with the person at the wheel, not the deer in the parking lot behind Marshall's.

Are you suggesting that Solon spend a few more million shooting deer in surrounding communities? I know the surrounding communities are very pleased with Solon's vote, after we kill a few hundred deer, their deer will naturally migrate to Solon where food will be plentiful, only to have Solon have to pay to kill them. It is extremely foolish to think that one city could regulate a migrating animal population.

The 422 discussion where Russo tried to use his committee to override the entire council was quite surprising. Bell objected, but Russo insisted on pressing on. While Russo stopped for today, it appears likely that 422 rails will be allowed to satay as a potentially fatal experiment to "see what happens".

While deer processing was on the menu, there was little discussion as it was approved. According to Stanek's memo, this will be a 3 year bid. So the 128K is just the beginning, now there is processing, then police overtime, and the money black hole will continue to grow!

I'd love to hear what the Bainbridge Police would say to a Solon resident complaining they saw a deer. I wonder if they could contain their chuckles or how many officers would spill hot coffee on themselves laughing at Solon resident's silly expectations of not being bothered by any wildlife.
