Property Committee: Sell the Lynch House

The city wants to sell and move the Lynch house to clear the land for parking and public space.

City Council will decide whether to sells the historic Lynch House after a vote Wednesday by the safety and public properties committee.

The city wants to sell the 107-year-old home, but not the land it sits on, in the hope that the home would be moved. The home is located on Bainbridge Road between the and the Bull House, two other historic structures.

The hope is that the land would be used as public open space and parking for historical society and events, said Mayor Susan Drucker.

Drucker floated the idea that the city council could put a deadline on selling the home and that, if the home doesn't sell by then, the city could decide whether to demolish it.

Discussions about the Lynch House started after a recent property assessment of the three historic structures on Bainbridge Road -- The Solon Historical Society building, the Bull House and Lynch House -- show that the properties .

The city wants to keep the historic society building and the Bull House, which may become a museum for the society. But that has made the Lynch House expendable.

The Lynch House was built in 1905 and bought by the city in 2007. The city used it as a temporary headquarters for the fire department while the fire station across the street on SOM Center Road was being built.
