New Money Man: Solon Hires Finance Director

Solon hired Dennis Kennedy to take over the finance department after the retirement of Bill Weber

Solon has a new finance director.

Mayor Susan Drucker appointed Dennis Kennedy to take over the slot once held by the now-retired Bill Weber. Kennedy is currently the finance director for the city of Brooklyn. City Council confirmed that appointment on Monday.

Kennedy was selected from a pool of 27 applicants by a hiring panel formed by Drucker.

"I think he's got a great resume and will be a great addition to the city," said Councilman Bill Mooney, who chairs the finance committee and was on the interview committee.

Drucker said the city received a number of great resumes, but that Kennedy stood out.

Before serving in Brooklyn, Kennedy has also handled finances for Beachwood and the Ohio Lottery. He served in the Gov. Bob Taft's cabinet and was appointed director of the state lottery.

Kennedy is married, with three children and lives in South Euclid.

He starts Oct. 3.
