If Approved, New Giant Eagle Expected to Open Summer 2013

Officials with Echo Development gave the Solon Planning Commission a rough schedule of their construction plans for the Solar Shopping Center.

If redevelopment of the Solar Shopping Center is approved and remains on schedule, developers say they expect a new to open in summer 2013.

Developers with Echo Realty presented their plans to the Solon Planning Commission at Tuesday night and talked about the schedule going forward.

The developers are requesting a "fast track" approach since they must receive approval by April 12, when their purchase agreement for the property expires. Planning commission members promised they will analyze the project diligently.

"While we will fast track this, this commission will not be taking any shortcuts," said planning chairman William Mazur.

If approved by the various Solon committees and ultimately city council, Echo first plans to build a 11,500 square foot retail center and redesign sections of the plaze will remain, said Phil Bishop of Echo Realty.

Once those are finished in the Fall, the plaza's existing tenants will be moved into those spaces.

That will clear the way for the developers to build a pad in late Fall for the new Giant Eagle on the southern side of the plaza.

Then Giant Eagle's builders will construct the supermarket, which is expected to open for business in summer 2013, Bishop said. Then the old Giant Eagle will be demolished.

"We understand there’s a lot of work ahead of us," Bishop said.

Solon Patch will have more coverage soon from last night's planning meeting.
