City Council Quick Takes: Rental Inspections, Deer Culling Contract Approved

Solon City Council met Wednesday and took action on big issues affecting the city

Solon City Council met Wednesday in and took action on some big issues looming over the city.

Here's a quick rundown:

  • By a 5-2 vote, city council approved an ordinance that will require landlords to register their properties – including the names of their tenants – and allow city building officials to on a three-year cycle. Councilmen Bill Russo and Bill Mooney voted against. Come back later for more on this story.
  • City Council authorized Jim Stanek to move forward on a deer culling contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Council voted 6-1, with Councilman Bob Pelunis voting against.
  • Council did not vote on the , but instead decided to post the maps online and in City Hall for residents to view. The plan is to vote at the next meeting on Sept. 19.
  • The city approved a new with Verizon Wireless. The city will be paying about $26.30 per phone, or about $2,235.92 per month. The city currently pays about $2,500.
