Solon Police Release Names Of Officers Involved In Shooting

The shooting incident on March 17 remains under investigation by state authorities.

The Solon Police Department has released the names of the two officers involved in a March 17 shooting that left one man dead.

Patrolman Steven Davis and Patrolman Nicholas Kline were involved in the shooting in which Kevin M. Bailey, a 22-year-old Sylvania Township man fired on police officers after a traffic stop.

The officers then returned fire, killing Bailey.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Both officers are on administrative leave during the investigation.

"We continue to cooperate closely with BCI and as we receive authorization to release information we will do that as quickly as possible," said Police Chief Christopher Viland. "We certainly want to tell the story of the courage and professionalism of our employees without complicating or compromising the continuing investigation."

Davis was hired in 2008 and is a member of the Southeast Area Law Enforcement SWAT team. He was wounded in the shooting when he was struck in the arm and chest by rounds fired by Bailey, police said. Davis was wearing a ballistic vest. He was treated and released from the hospital after the incident, but recently had surgery to remove glass fragments from his hand. He is home recoving during his administrative leave.

Kline was hired in November 2009 and is a member of the Valley Enforcement Group SWAT Perimeter team.
