Solon Police Arrest Seven at Drunk Driving Checkpoint

Solon Police arrested seven people and charged them with various crimes during a on Aurora Road on Sept. 3.

The checkpoint was part of a nationwide crackdown against drunk driving over Labor Day weekend and coincided with the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

According to Solon police, two people were charged for drunk driving, two for driving while their license was suspended and one for having an open alcohol container in the car.

A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested for underage possession of alcohol and cigarettes and drug abuse after marijuana was found, according to a news release.

Another passenger was arrested and charged with drug abuse.

In all,Β 502 cars passed through the checkpoint on Aurora Road between Solon Boulevard and Solon road between 9:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Sept. 4.

Of the 502 checked, 23 were diverted based upon probable cause or for not having a driver’s license on them.

"We feel strongly that these periodic, targeted enforcement events in conjunction with other preventative and enforcement activities make our roadways and our community safer," Lt. Bruce Felton, a police spokesman, in a news release.
