Shoplifters Escape From Giant Eagle, Caught Later By Police

A man and a women face charges after police say they tried to flee after shoplifting from Giant Eagle in Solon.

On Jan.29, Giant Eagle called Solon Police to report a theft in progress by a woman who placed merchandise in her purse and left the store at Solon Village.

The woman, a 37-year-old Cleveland woman, then hopped into a car driven by a 39-year-old Cleveland man. Police approached the car, and the woman got out fled on foot.

Police caught up to her near Solon Boulevard. She gave false information to police and did not have the purse with the items. She was arrested and taken to Solon jail.

Police followed the man to Boston Market, where he tried to leave the purse at a dumpster. He was arrested and taken to Solon jail.

Police searched the car and found other items thought to be shoplifted from local stores, including Marc's in Solon.

The woman was charged with two counts of theft, criminal trespassing and she was also held on a warrant for another agency.

The man was charged with obstructing justice.
