Northeast Ohio: Serial Bank Robbers Sentenced

Charles Compton and Dwayne McDaniel were convicted of robbing banks in Mentor, Twinsburg, Beachwood and more

Two men who pleaded guilty to robbing banks in Mentor, Beachwood, Twinsburg and other communities throughout Northeast Ohio were sentenced recently in Ohio Northern District Federal Court.

Charles Compton, 31, of Euclid, admitted to 14 counts of bank robbery and was sentenced to spend 10 1/2 years in federal prison. His codefendant, Dwayne McDaniel, 35, of Maple Heights, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of bank robbery and will spend the next 12 1/3 years in prison.

A witness spotted them leaving in a white car and followed them, police said.

Oakwood Village Police attempted to stop the car, but McDaniel and Compton went west to I-480. They got off the highway on Lee Road and turned on to Miles Road, until they hit a pole on East 131 Street, north of Broadway Avenue in Garfield Heights.

After the crash, one of the men tried to keep running away, but Oakwood police caught both of them.
