The information in this report is from the Solon Police.

UPDATE: The man killed during a shootout with Solon Police has been identified as Kevin M. Bailey, 22, of Sylvania Township. Read more here.

A man is dead according to multiple media reports after Solon Police say he fired gunshots after he fled a traffic stop on Bainbridge Road.

Police confirmed that there had been an "officer involved shooting" on Sunday night and that an investigation into the matter would be handled by the Ohio Bureau of Investigation’s Special Investigations and Crime Scene Unit.

Jill Del Greco, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Attorney General's Office, confirmed that the BCI is investigating but added "right now we are not releasing any additional information."

The police are not revealing details of what occured during the shooting, but media reports say the suspect is dead.

WKYC Channel 3 is reporting that officers were seen surrounding what looked like a tarp covering a body. Fox 8 News has reported that the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office is on the scene. News Channel 5 reported that a Solon Police cruiser had been struck in the windshield by bullets.

According to police, an officer pulled over a car at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday on Bainbridge Road. During the traffic stop, the man then fled in his car and crashed on Sunnywood Drive.

Officers pursued and then "came under fire" from the suspect, according to police.

Police say the incident is currently under investigation and that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will assume responsibility of the investigation of the incident.

Solon Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

When you threaten the police and or attack them, this is what a criminal may come up against. I live in Solon, Oh and the police department and officers are exceptional. Unfortunately for this guy probably well warranted. Our officers need to protect themselves from people like this.
RED March 18, 2013 at 08:31 PM
well Yvette tragic for those who loved him and didnt raise him properly, YOU NEVER EVER THREATEN POLICE.....this may be America, land of the free BUT NOT FREE FROM CRIME...... thank you Solon Police!
Jay March 18, 2013 at 08:54 PM
No matter who did what to who, the police investigating the police is never a good idea.

The investigation has been handed over to the state. I find it odd the sympathy for the criminal and his family but not a word about the wounded officers and their families. These officers will have to make traffic stops in the future and this will be on their minds. I honor what they do for a living because I wouldn't want to trade places with them.
JD March 19, 2013 at 01:08 AM
The real tragity is the officers wounded! (A speedy recovery to them) I'm behind solon pd 100% when you fire at police FIRST you chance death. I also think if my child shot at police I would feel like a failure as a parent!
Jamie March 19, 2013 at 02:23 PM
Yvette and Loni - Really read what you wrote. Sorry but not too bright now.
JD March 19, 2013 at 02:51 PM
I agree Jamie!

Got what he deserved.one less person we have to watch out for. I'm sure we will hear later how he was a good person or how the police was wrong.
JD March 19, 2013 at 03:31 PM
It really makes me sad that the officers invlolved are serving the public and have to live knowing they took a life protecting ours (i wouldnt want that on my conscious), then get people like yvette and loni protecting the criminals what a joke, (probably criminals themselves)this guy had a record of hit and run, drugs, firearms possesion ect... yeah real good guy . he got what he deserved. i think the officers should be commended for a great job

Yes, to shoot at the police is wrong, however the young mas was shot in the head four times, his chest an dif Im not mistaken, his back. That is worse than shooting a horse to put it iout of it's misery. Black life in white America is target practice and meaningless. Had he been white, they would probably just wonuded him.

Wow, so now you are in charge of saying what justice should be issued to another person. That is the mind of white supremacy. The police is a gang in itself and thay are not always in the right. You better hope that you are not the victim of some crime or accidentally shoot and killed. Then people will be leaving comments who know nothing about you saying " he got what he deserved". Your comment truly exposes the color of your neck if you get my drift!!!!!!
Rachel March 19, 2013 at 05:43 PM
Yes maam! Regardless to his crime, its another one of young Black men gone. Sad but true.
JD March 19, 2013 at 06:01 PM
you are mistaken rachel, the suspect jumped on the hood of the police car before police got out! and he fired through the windshield at them. the police fired back at him through the windshield from inside the car. im sure at that point your pulling the trigger to save your own life and the shots fired were from fear and training. and as far as white america we have a black president! so get over it!
Murphy-Solon March 19, 2013 at 06:02 PM
Let me put it to you straight lady. When you're being shot at like the police were your adrenaline is pumping and you just fire back. There's no time for precise targeting when your natural instinct to survive kicks in. This creep had many opportunities to straighten his life out given the length of his rap sheet and he chose not to do so. This type of behavior is tolerated in the inner city by the likes of you and that's why the inner city is inhabitable. If you understand nothing, then understand this: This type of animalistic behavior will NOT be tolerated in Solon so the creeps best take their show to a different city and I don't give a you know what if you don't like that.
JD March 19, 2013 at 08:09 PM
your kidding me rachel, color of my neck your drift? white supremacy? your the only rascist here. whats wrong whitey keeping you down? the only reason this kid was a criminal was because of parents like you! your scum!
RED March 19, 2013 at 09:15 PM
BS Rachel,,,,,,,,,,his color is trivial, altho, i could say more, YOU shoot at police, then prepare to die, 4 shots or 8 shots who cares, he was a hardened criminal, you think he cared about YOU? he would laugh while he was shooting you for dope!

OMAR, your thinking is racially biased and pathetic. If this creep were alive today, his story would be believable because he destroyed his credibility with his extensive rap sheet at the young age of 22. We do know that it is illegal for a felon to be in possession of a firearm period. We do know that the police were shot while sitting in their squad car. Your idiotic opinion won't be tolerated in Solon. You have lost before you have even begun.
JD March 22, 2013 at 04:55 PM
Murphy i agree its always sad when a young life's taken in an accident, this was no accident. If it was a white guy these jerks wouldn't have nothing to say! And we would still agree the white guy got what he deserved. It's sad racism is so blind and ignorant.
RED March 25, 2013 at 08:03 PM
TJ......please honey go to school today, you sound so bored!!!!
Murphy-Solon March 25, 2013 at 08:37 PM
First of all this did not involve Cleveland police officers. This happened in Solon and we haven't had an officer involved shooting in decades. Second, I know everything I need to know about "Kevin". He was a felon in violation of Federal Law possessing a firearm at all. He shot 2 Solon police officers while they were sitting in their cruisers. Thirdly, doing that is tantamount to committing suicide by cop. I know all I need to know about that fool. What you need to know JD is: NOT IN THIS CITY, DOG. That type of behavior WILL NOT be tolerated. PERIOD
JD March 25, 2013 at 08:44 PM
Murphy I know what I need to know, I'm on your side the whole way! And have been since the start read the post, you mental or something? Or taking something out of context?
Jim Riley June 03, 2013 at 08:07 PM
Watch the video that was just released. All of you simian ignoramus' that defended this scumbag should be forced to personally apologize to the officers involved and their families. Thank goodness he didn't survive, one less burden on societies shoulders. Another one I can hear now I can hear his mother, "Ma baby, ma baby, dat police man, he done just kilt ma baby, Ma baby aint eva dun nutting wrong to nobody and dat police man just kilt him, he a good boy workin and goin to school to do computers and dey kilt him!" Good thing these officers had their camera rolling.
