Updated at 2:16 p.m. Monday

A man and a woman were arrested Friday after leading police on a wrong-way chase down U.S. 422.

After an investigation, police released a statement saying they charged Lloyd M. Compton, 45, of Parma, with felony counts of recieving stolen property, fleeing police, and possession of crack cocaine. Compton's accomplice, Brittany S. Mallory, 25, of Cleveland, was charged with drug abuse for the crack cocaine.

At about 1:49 p.m. Friday, a Solon cop checked the license plate on a white Buick four-door car at SOM Center Road and 422.

The car was flagged as stolen, but when the officer went to pull it over, the driver of the stolen car didn't comply.

That was when things got dangerous. The driver crossed the median and began driving the wrong way in the highway traffic. Luckily, there were no collisions and no one was hurt during the chase.

The driver eventually jumped out of the car and fled on foot near the Banbury Court area off of Miles Road in Warrensville Heights.

Police eventually caught him there after residents showed officers where he was hiding in some bushes.

A female accomplice who remained in the car after it stopped was also arrested.

Police said Compton also had active arrest warrants (including 2 felony warrants) from multiple agencies for having dangerous drugs, assault, failure to appear and outstanding traffic warrants.  He has an extensive criminal history to include arrests for attempted murder, felonious assault, robbery, burglary, drug possession, and domestic violence.

My 5 year old and 2 year old were both in the car with me when the Buick sped by us at what seemed like 90mph on the shoulder to our right....unreal! Grateful he was caught!

Our family of 5 were in the fast lane 422 east bound when the buick came head on in the same lane facing west bound. My husband had to swerve strategically to miss it! We were all quite shaken up and thankful there were no injuries of fatalities!

Theresa Szachury I am so angry that people have No regard for another persons life. My daughter also was driving east on 422 when this idiot crossed over the median right in front of where her uncle had just died in a cement truck accident. To say she was upset is putting it mildly. They should both spend some time in a drug treatment or jail to think of what could of happened to all these people just minding thier business driving down this road.Thank you God for protecting them all!

I hope these wanna be Bonnie and Clyde loosers spend a few years behind bars. Who knows how many innocent people could have been killed. Please let us know the sentencing results. The judge should throw the book at them.
