Giant Eagle In Solon Cracking Down On Shoplifters

Five people in the last 10 days have been charged with shoplifting after Solon Police say they were caught trying to steal goods from the store.

Giant Eagle, which is hard at work on a new store in Solon, hasn't been neglecting its current store.

In the last 10 days, five people have been caught trying to shoplift goods from the existing supermarket at Solon Village, according to Solon Police reports.

All of them were caught by the company's loss prevention officers while trying to take unpaid merchandise from the store.

Here are details on the arrests. Remember, charges are not convictions.

  • On Jan. 19 at 2:07 p.m., police officers were called to Giant Eagle where loss prevention had detained a 54-year-old Solon woman for shoplifting.Β  According to the police report, the woman had loaded a cart with $86.70 worth of items and tried to conceal it with a coat and bags while leaving the store without paying.
  • On Jan. 23 at 12:04 p.m., police went to Giant Eagle to deal with a suspected shoplifter in custody, a 59-year-old Cleveland man. The man was arrested and charged with thefor concealing $76.74 worth of items in his shirt and trying to exit the store without paying for them.
  • On Jan. 24 at 11:41 a.m., police were called to Giant Eagle after a 46-year-old Aurora man was caught for shoplifting, according to police. The man attempted to steal $50.47 worth of goods by putting them into cloth bags and trying to walk from the store.
  • On Jan. 25 at 12:51 p.m. police went to Giant Eagle after a 67-year-old Aurora woman was seen by Giant Eagle employees loading up the store's bags with merchandise and trying to leave without paying. The woman was attempting to steal $62.39 worth of goods, according to the police report.
  • On Jan. 27 at 1:33 p.m. police were called to deal with a 58-year-old Solon man who was caught trying to walk out of the store with about $33.44 worth of items in his pocket. The man had paid for some items at a self-checkout before trying to leave.
