Five Women Report Thefts from Cars While Exercising on Same Night

The incidents occurred on Nov. 8 at Curves and the Solon Community Center

Five women reported thefts from their vehicles with 90 minutes on Nov. 8.

In each case, the women told Solon Police that somebody broke the windows of their cars and stole various items while they exercised. Two of the thefts were reported at Curves, and the others took place at the Solon Community Center. The locations are less than one mile away from one another.

First, a 64-year-old woman of Maple Heights said she was at Curves, 6384 SOM Center Road, when somebody broke into her Nissan Quest. Her driver's side window was smashed, and the suspect got away with a purse containing identification and credit cards. She believes the theft took place between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

Next, a 44-year-old Solon resident said somebody broke into her Mitsubishi in the north side of the Curves parking lot. The only missing item from that car was a brown lunch bag containing an apple.

The same night, three other women told police about similar incidents that occurred between 6:05 and 7 p.m. at the Solon Community Center. One woman said a purse was taken from her 2012 GMC Acadia after the driver's side rear window was broken.

While an officer was handling that report, another woman said her vehicle, a Kia Sportage, was also broken into in the Community Center lot. Her purse was stolen.

As the officer looked at the Kia, yet another woman approached to report a purse theft from her vehicle.

"What's frustrating is, most times, these people cause more damage to a car than the value of what's stolen," Solon Police Lt. Felton said.

All of these incidents are under investigation, Felton said.
