Columbus Man Charged With Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms

The following information was provided by the Solon Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

In Ohio, having illegal drugs like mushrooms on you is still a crime, even if you aren't planning on eating them. This came as a surprise to one Columbus man.

Nathan Lechler, 21, was charged with drug possession, a fifth-degree felony after police found a bag of psilocybin mushrooms in his pocket.

On June 7 Solon police made a traffic stop on US 422 for a suspended license when the officer smelled marijuana from inside.

Lechler was searched when police found marijuana and the mushrooms he "forgot he had" on him.

There were other men in the car, both from Columbus. The driver was charged with driving under suspension, open container, drug abuse and drug paraphernalia.

The other passenger was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
