Bottle Chucker on Pettibone Cited for Mischief

Neighbors involved in a decade-long dispute that usually results in trash throwing

A 64-year-old man was issued a criminal mischief citation on Friday for his part in a longtime, neighborly dispute.

Mitchell Buckley, a Pettibone Road resident, threw a plastic bottle on his neighbor's lawn. Though it seems trivial, Lt. Bruce Felton said the citation appears to stem from repeated calls from Buckley's 50-year-old neighbor over the years. The neighbor has repeatedly called police about an ongoing conflict that has typically resulted in Buckley throwing trash.

"When I saw ongoing, I mean for at least the last 10 years," Felton said. "It's pretty ridiculous."

Felton said police are unsure of the nature of the dispute or its origin.

"I think if any of us knew how to get rid of this, we would," Felton said. "It's crazy. It seemed to have started very soon after the victim moved into the house and it really hasn't let up since then."

Criminal mischief is a third-degree misdemeanor, Felton said, so Buckley isn't expected to do any jail time for his bottle chucking.

"It's just one of those bizarre things," Felton said.
