Beer Truck Driver Charged With Drunken Driving, Drug Abuse

A beer truck driver was charged with drunken driving and drug abuse after say he nearly caused a crash pulling his truck out of a gas station on March 12.

According to the police report, the 49-year-old driver from Rome, Ohio, was pulling out of Sunmart on Aurora Road at about 3:30 a.m. on March 12. The report says the tractor trailer pulled across incoming traffic and nearly caused a crash.

Police searched the truck and found marijuana and a pipe in a cooler. He took a field sobriety test and registered a blood-alcohol rating of .137.

The driver, David A. Shaefer, 49, was charged with drunken driving, drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The truck was handed over to Superior Beverage, the driver's employer.
