89-Year-Old Solon Woman Invites Burglar Into Home

After suspicious visit, woman reports $1,500 worth of jewelry was stolen

On Feb. 7, an 89-year-old Solon woman received a knock at the door and a strange visit she believes resulted in her SOM Center Drive home being burglarized.

On the other side of the door was a heavyset white male in his 50s wearing a black ball cap and a chain with a cross. He had a walkie-talkie and said one of her neighbor's pipes had burst from the cold, so he was coming by to make sure her pipes were fine, according to a Solon police report

The woman told police that the man checked out her kitchen sink and then the pipes in the bathroom. The entire time he was speaking into the walkie-talkie, but only said "alright" and nothing else. She said the man had an accent, but she could not place it.
