Coast Guard Searching For Solon Couple Missing in Lake Erie

Missing are Pam Holstein and Charles Kaplan, both of Solon, whose boat was found capsized near Cedar Point.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other rescue agencies are searching for a Solon couple who went missing in Lake Erie off of Cedar Point.

The couple's boat was found capsized by Cedar Point employees earlier Sunday.

Missing is Pam Holstein and Charles Kaplan, both 58-year-old Solon residents.

U.S. Coast Guard boat and aircrews are searching Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio, for two Solon, Ohio, boaters who are missing after their boat was found capsized near Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky Sunday afternoon.

Missing are Pam Holstein and Charles Kaplan, 58, both of Solon.

Personnel from Cedar Point Amusement Park saw the 36-foot Rinker capsized on the east side of Cedar Point Breakwall and notified authorities at 12:13 p.m.

A Coast Guard boatcrew immediately launched aboard a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft – Law Enforcement boat from Station Marblehead, Ohio, to search the area. Aircrews from Air Stations Detroit and Traverse City also launched aboard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters. Also assisting is a Coast Guard Auxiliary aircraft.

Responders reported it appears as though the vessel may have struck the breakwall before capsizing.

It is unknown what time the boat capsized, what time Holstein and Kaplan took the boat out into Lake Erie or if they departed Saturday evening or Sunday. Family members stated they last spoke to the couple around 5 p.m. Saturday.
