Comets Swimming and Diving Achieve Success at the 2013 NOC Meet

The Solon Comets Swimming and Diving team just completed very successful competition at the 2013 Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC) meet.

The Solon Comets Swimming and Diving team just completed very successful competition at the 2013 Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC) meet.  The diving competition was held at the Solon High School Natatorium on Thursday and Friday.  The swimming competition occurred at Cleveland State’s Busbey Natatorium on Saturday.

In the Boys 1 meter diving event on Thursday evening, freshman Antony Styrt impressed the field with a strong 4th place finish and 338.8 points.  Hudson standout Alex Obendorf dominated the event with 467.85 points.  Solon junior Mike Moentmann finished in 9th place for the Comets.  The Girls Diving team was quite impressive on Friday evening having 3 divers finish in the top 10!  Solon senior and University of Pennsylvania commit  Sivan Mills won the event with a whopping 433.05 points through her 11 dives.  Sophomore Olivia Kreft finished in 4th place with 326.3 points and junior Chrissy Sharkus finished in 10th place for the Lady Comets.

On Saturday the Comets swimming team achieved 65 individual lifetime best times and set 3 new NOC meet records.  Junior Anna Wong led the Lady Comets with a strong 1st place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.03.  Wong set a new NOC meet record during the preliminaries with a time of 59.51.   The boys 200 medley relay team of Grant Pinchot, Patrick Tippen, Christopher Guo and Ryan Carson set another NOC meet record in a 1st place time of 1:38.33.

For the Lady Comets, senior Becca Hoffman had another strong meet splashing to a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.58) and a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (24.86) for the Lady Comets.  Sophomore Jessica Jin finished third in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 55.39.  Wong also finished in 3rd place in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.04).  Sophomore Allison Hoffman led the swimming competition by singing a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, followed by a 4th place finish in the 200 yard individual medley and a 7th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.  Sophomore Lady Comet Aurelia Sweeney had a strong 4th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.30).  The Lady Comets relay teams both finished in second place as the 200 freestyle relay team of Allison Hoffman, Becca Hoffman, Halle Immormino and Jessica Jin finished in 1:41.11 and the 200 yard medley relay team of Wong, Sweeney, and the Hoffman sisters finished in 1:51.05.

Sophomore Grant Pinchot led the Boys team with a first place finish in the 100 yard buttery (52.10).  Pinchot also finished in second place in the 100 yard backstroke (53.93).  Senior Ryan Carson, in just one week after having his foot cast removed, finished in 3rd place in the 100 backstroke (54.23).  Sophomore breaststroker Christopher Guo finished in 2nd place in the 200 individual medley (1:58.85) and also took second place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.49).  At the conclusion of the whitewater settling from the 50 yard freestyle, sophomore Patrick Tippen found himself in 3rd place (22.43).  Senior Mark Lippert, after returning from a two week battle with the flu, finished in 3rd place in the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.85) for the Comets.
