Solon Company Moving Hundreds of Jobs to China

Keithley Instruments will cease its manufacturing operations in Solon next year

A Solon-based company that employs about 350 workers plans to send its manufacturing operation to China, reports the Plain Dealer.

, located on Aurora Road, told the newspaper that the decision was made after a "lengthy evaulation and analysis of a number of alternatives." 

A spokeswoman said the decision is the best for Keithley's "long-term competitiveness."

Solon city officials aren't commenting on the move, telling the Plain Dealer they are honoring the company's request not to speak about the move. Company leaders have also told employees not to talk.

The company's research and development arm would remain in Solon, but it's unclear how many jobs are involved, according to the newspaper.

The newspaper reports that Keithley plans to use a Chinese factory owned by Tektronix. The Danaher holding company bought Keithley and merged many of its operations with Tektronix in 2010.

Keithley makes testing equipment for the electronic industry.
