Poll: Shoud Stores Be Open on Thanksgiving?

Take our poll and tell us if you think stores should be open on Thanksgiving or if workers should be able to spend time with their families.

More than 187,000 have signed a petition started by a Nebraska employee on Change.org to "save Thanksgiving" by having Black Friday sales start at 5 a.m. rather than at midnight.

Anthony Hardwick said a midnight opening robs employees of time off with their families on Thanksgiving.

That started 26 other campaigns on Change.org to get , , Macy's and other stores to change their midnight openings, said Benjamin Joffe-Walt, director of communications for Change.org.

It's sad that Americans can't forgo even one day of rampant consumerism. I have never and will never shop on 'Black Friday' and honestly have a difficult time understanding the mindset of people that do. It's gotten so bad that even local grocery stores are now opening at a ridiculous hour the day after Thanksgiving so as to jump on the Black Friday bandwagon. Do we really need to have store employees come in at the crack of dawn just so some of us can buy even more food the day after the biggest pig out in the American calendar? It's disgusting really.
