Nestlè Breaks Ground on New Facility Thursday

The $53 million dollar facility could be finished by 2014.

Nestlè's new research and development facility is moving ahead as the company breaks ground Thursday where the facility will be built on Cannon Road near Harper Road.

The ceremony to mark the start of construction on the company's $53 million Global Product Technology Center is at 1:30 p.m. near the Nestlè building.

Parking is limited at the construction site so visitors are asked to gather at the Nestlé Bainbridge Building by 1 p.m. and it will provide transportation to the site and then back to the following technology fair.

The investment will help Nestlè develop frozen food products for consumers around the world. Construction was originally set to start last November, and the building is expected to be finished by 2014.

The research facility is expected to both create new jobs and retain existing ones in Solon. The company expects there to be 116 employees in the facility, with 41 new jobs added to the 75 existing jobs. The company plans to bring 28 new jobs in the first year of the building's life, according to city documents.
