Music In Motion Wins Again; Fourth Grand Championship of Season

Despite a strange incident with a fire extinguisher, Solon's Music in Motion received its fourth straight grand championship in Twinsburg.

Solon High School's Music In Motion brought home its 4th straight Grand Championship, after participating in the Northcoast Show Choir Invitational on Saturday at Twinsburg.

The competition included 19 show choirs, representing 4 junior high schools and 15 high schools from Ohio, West Virgina and Alabama.

During the daytime awards, Music In Motion won Class A Champion, Best Female Vocalist (Dani Apple), and Best Student Instrumental Combo. Stephen Kersey was also awarded the Best Individual Performer for Solon.

Based on the highest overall scores Solon and choirs from Medina, Loveland, Ohio, Nitro, WV, Hurricane, WV, and Albertville, Ala. were selected to move on to the evening finals.

Shortly into finals, a minor accident involving a fire extinguisher occured back stage, requiring the building to be evacuated and the fire department was called. The conditions in the auditorum were considered to be unsafe for the competition to continue, and was cancelled. Upon discussion amongst the Twinsburg competition staff, judges and show choir directors, it was decided to base the final awards on the daytime overall scoring.

As a result, Music In Motion was named Grand Champion and also received an award for Outstanding Vocal Performance. Music In Motion's next competition will be at Teays Valley High School in Ashville, Ohio on March 10.

Solon will be hosting its first show choir competition March 3 at . The event is open to the public, with tickets starting at $8.00. The daytime competition goes from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Finals begin at 7:30 pm. Music In Motion will be performing at 10:30 pm, prior to the evening awards.
