Best of the Fest Celebration at Solon Center for the Arts

The Chagrin Documentary Film festival in a new partnership with the Solon Center for the Arts for a ‘Best of the Fest’ Weekend April 27 to 29, 2012.

 A weekend of film and dialogue beginning with Friday evening April 27th at 6:30 pm with a wine and cheese reception followed by a screening of the 2011 Best Documentary Award winner “Breaking through the Clouds”. Solon Mayor, Susan Drucker and Chagrin Falls Mayor Thomas Brick will welcome guests to the event, sponsored by Hamlet Village Retirement Community. Tickets for the evening are $15. The award winning film “Breaking Through the Clouds” was directed by Heather Taylor and covers the fascinating journey of 16 pioneering pilots in the first Women’s National Air Derby.

 On Saturday, April 28, a selection of 2011 award winning documentaries will be shown from 4:00 to 6:00PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The 4:00 PM block begins with “Foi et Joie/Faith and Joy”, winner of the Best Ohio Documentary directed by Akron resident Andrew Marquard. This is followed by Best Cinematography winner “Among Giants” directed by Chris Cresci of Chapman University, Orange California. The 7:00 PM block begins with the Emerging Filmmaker winner “Finding Fathers” directed by France Costrel from Normandy, France, followed by “Between the Harvest” directed by Scott Drucker. “Between the Harvest” is about the harvesting of sea turtle eggs in Costa Rica and is the winner of the Environmental Award. Tickets for a block of films are $10, $8 for students and seniors.  See all of the of the films for $15, $12 for students and seniors. This event is sponsored by the ChagrinValley/Solon Times.

 On Sunday, April 29 at 5:00 pm the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival is partnering with the Reel Israel Series for the delightful film “Fluchkes” (Yiddish for flabby arms) directed by Ofer Inov. The screening of the Reel Israel film is free and open to the public and is sponsored by South Franklin Circle.  For more information about the Reel Israel Series go to www.reelisrael.org
