Sept. 11 Prayer Service Will Remember, and Look Ahead to Future

An interfaith prayer service scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Solon's Veterans Park is intended to bring the community together through peace and unity

Peace and unity. To remember, but also to move on.

That's the goal of Sunday's interfaith prayer service organized by Solon's religious leaders as a way to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We wanted to make sure we provided a space for the community at large to not only look back, and grieve, but also to move forward," said Rev. Kerri Peterson-Davis with .

The service will feature faith leaders from the , , , ,  and .

While faith leaders from Solon say they will discuss Sept. 11 to varying degrees at their own services this weekend, the public prayer service is a way to unite the community, no matter your faith, said Rabbi Estelle Mills of Congregation Kol Chadash.

"The tragedy on 9/11 affected our entire country, all religions and races, and it's important we remember it together," Mills said.

Rev. Jim Lewis of Advent Lutheran Church said the Veterans Memorial is the perfect spot for such a service, considering the decade of war that has followed 9/11.

"It provides an opportunity to ask ourselves the question: 'How do we move forward in peace?' " Lewis said.
