Italian Club Collecting Donations for Military at Saturday's Easter Egg Hunt

The hunt, sponsored by the Solon Italian Club in cooperation with the Solon Recreation Department, is expected to draw about 1,000 kids to the football stadium at Solon High School

The Solon Italian Club will host its 27th annual Easter Egg Hunt at noon on Saturday, a holiday event expected to attract hordes of excited kids and support a good cause.

While the event is free, the Italian Club is collecting donated canned goods to give to local charities and food pantries.

In addition, organizers ask participants to bring non-perishable items they could send to military personnel deployed overseas.

“It has always been our pleasure to organize and hold this Easter Egg Hunt,” said Bob Yodice, club president on their website. “We are also acutely aware of the sacrifices made by the men and women in our armed forces. Since we are anticipating a large crowd again this year, we thought it would be an excellent opportunity to show community support for our troops.”

The club suggests these items to send to military serving overseas: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, deodorant, dental floss, cotton balls, disposable hand and feet warmers, toilet paper, razors, hair gel, shampoo, soap, chapstick, wet wipes, foil packets of chicken, dried fruit, energy bars, snack cakes, hot chocolate, candy, beef jerky, playing cards, batteries, puzzle books, and blank greeting cards (to send notes back home) are ideal.

The event is free and will be held rain or shine. If it's nice outside, the hunt will take place on the football field at Solon High School. If the weather is bad, the gym at the Solon Recreation Center will host the hunt.

The club suggests you check the website and the city cable channel for any weather decision.

Solon Patch will have full coverage of the event, including photo galleries and video, so come back later this weekend and check it out!
