We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

Where/When: , Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 7-8 p.m.

Why Go: Escape to the tropics ... at the Library!Kiss the summer goodbye with this tropical blast of fun! There will be live steel drum/Caribbean music with Island Jeff Cavallo, featuring Hawaiian favorites, tropical-country music by Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks and others, and music by Jimmy Buffett and The Beach Boys.

The program includes the history of the steel drum, how it's tuned and created, and an opportunity to try the steel drum yourself!

Where/When: , Thursday, Sept. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: The weather is turning chilly but preschoolers still need exercise! The Solon Community Center Gym is turning half of the gym into a preschooler's paradise. Caregivers are encouraged to bring their preschool-aged child (4 years old and younger) to use the gym equipment and mats. Members are always free, non-members will pay the drop-in fee.

Pricing: $6 adult resident, $4 child resident

Where/When: , Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: The veterans of World War II will be on hand to share their story. Nicknamed the "Greatest Generation," these men and women rescued democracy both on their home turf as well as all over the world. W.E.B. 'Bill' Mason will regale you with stories from his stint as a bomber pilot.

Where/When: Perici Ampitheater (10260 Ravenna Rd, Twinsburg), Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: In remembrance of the attacks on that fateful morning of Sept. 11, 2001, the library offers this special event. The Western Reserve Community Band will perform for the gathering. Bring a chair or blanket for your comfort.
