Celebrate Spring And Support Local Growers at the North Union Farmers Market

As spring arrives, so do the fresh foods at local farmers markets

A great way to celebrate spring is at the opening days of the North Union Farmers Market beginning April 9 at Historic Shaker Square and April 16 at Crocker Park.   This is a great way to treat your family to the very best in-season veggies and foods, while supporting the region’s small farmers and artisans in a vibrant, community atmosphere.

The North Union Farmers Market connects consumers with certified producers of foods grown locally in Northeastern Ohio and promotes their environmental, economic and health benefits through a network of markets.  Other locations for the open-air markets include Chagrin Falls, Cleveland State University, Cleveland Clinic and Lakewood; times and dates are available .

The first of the markets, at the Shaker Square location, was established in 1995 and the concept expanded from then on to include the other neighborhoods.  The American Farmland Trust in 2011 voted the North Union Farmers Market as one of America’s Top 20 Farmers Markets in the country.

In addition to the very freshest seasonal produce, pasture-raised meat and dairy products and scrumptious baked goods, opening day festivities will feature live music, local artists, sheep shearing demonstrations, and the Chef of the Day creating dishes using the locally grown ingredients.

Go early and return with some delicious muffins and breads before the rest of the family wakes up.  They’ll think you’ve been slaving over a hot oven since dawn and no one will be the wiser.
