The NBA Lockout is good for the Cavs!

As crazy as it sounds, we as Cavs fans should be wanting the NBA to cancel this years season.

This is going to sound crazy, but what if I told you the Cleveland Cavaliers could have both the 1st and 4th pick in next years draft, would you take that? What if I told you all it would take would be for the 2011-2012 season to not happen, still interested?

It’s far fetched, and yes a little crazy, but let’s take a breath and examine the facts. Last year was not a good year for the Cavs, call it rebuilding, call it loosing one of the best players in the league, call it a new coach, call it applesauce for all I care, it wasn’t a good year. But out from the gray cloud that lingered over Cleveland (among the masses of gray clouds put there by our other storied franchises) came a small bit of silver lining in the names of Kyrie Irving and Tristen Thompson. We have no idea if either will be even good enough to make it into the league, but fan confidence is up (this is the year!) and get ready Cleveland fans, because I’m about to raise that confidence up even past the height of when we drafted Lebron all those years ago.

Let’s play a game and assume the 2011-2012 season won’t happen (hard to imagine right?). Let’s then assume that by some miracle (or lack of income) everyone get’s their act together and decides on a new CBA and the lockout is over, bring on the 2012-2013 season. Sounds great right? But here is where it finally gets good to be a Cavs fan, what would they do with the draft? More importantly, what would they do with the draft order? You can’t randomly reorder the draft and without a season played, you can’t guess on who would be the worst teams and entered into the lottery. The only fair (and unbiased) thing to do would be keep the draft order from the last time they had it, giving Cleveland not only another number 1 pick, but also the number 4 pick as well, for those keeping score at home that’s 4 top 4 picks in two years (not bad for only one bad season).

We always hear stories of teams tanking it late in the season to ensure a top draft pick (heck I’m pretty sure Cleveland did it to get Lebron) so what’s to say Dan Gilbert doesn’t tank the owners meetings to ensure we don’t have a season this year and his Cavs are back on top come draft time.

What do you say Cavs fans? Would you be ok with this? Should we petition Mr. Gilbert to make sure he does everything in his power to not let a season happen? Should an asterisk be branded on next years Draft order? How does 4 top 4 picks in two years sound to you?

Better question, how does the idea of no NBA this season sound to you now?

All for one, One for All-LETS GO CAVS!

Writers Note: This is a opinion post, and although I like the idea of us getting a second chance at the top pick in the draft, I have no sources saying this will happen weather the season happens or not, nor do I have any source indicating Dan Gilbert is doing anything to ensure the season doesn’t happen
