University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center Women's Health Expo to encourage a lifetime of wellness on February 8

Eighth annual event includes interactive physician panel, free health screenings and brunch

GEAUGA COUNTY – The eighth annual University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center Women’s Health Expo will take place on Saturday, February 8 from 8 a.m.- 12 p.m. This year’s free event is designed to encourage “A Lifetime of Wellness” by informing and empowering women in the Geauga County area through interactive physician discussions, free health screenings and a complimentary brunch, in the spirit of healthy living and community-oriented fun.

In a departure from the format of previous Expos, Maria T. Madden, MD, FACS, Medical Director, Breast Center, UH Geauga Medical Center, will open the event. “I’ll educate people about breast cancer prevention as well as the key components of our accredited Breast Center,” says Dr. Madden, whose clinical expertise includes breast disease and breast surgery. “However, since ‘women’s health’ means more than just breast care, I’ll also set the stage for discussions and risk assessments that address concerns like high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, obesity and other forms of cancer.”

Following Dr. Madden’s remarks, a panel of UH Geauga Medical Center clinical experts representing a wide range of specialties will address health-related questions and conduct an interactive session with the audience. Topics will include cardiology, oncology, gynecology, pain management, orthopaedics, lung disease and sleep disorders.

The Expo’s free wellness assessments will include screenings for blood pressure, vascular health and stroke risk; cholesterol and blood glucose levels; memory, depression and sleep disorders; and bone density.

“Maintaining good health is so important to the vitality of our families and our community as a whole,” says M. Steven Jones, President, UH Geauga Medical Center. “With that objective in mind at the start of a new year, we are excited to again offer the Women’s Health Expo and our wide range of resources that can help women maximize their wellness and that of their loved ones throughout their lives.”

The Women’s Health Expo will also include a healthy brunch, a fashion show featuring UH Geauga Medical Center weight loss surgery patient alumni and over 20 specialized women’s health-centric vendors. “The Women’s Health Expo is all about education, and education is power,” says Dr. Madden, who is also Chief of Staff at UH Geauga Medical Center. “As a woman, the better we can address your health care fears and make sure you have the right information, the more confidence you will have to make the best decisions about your own care. Those decisions will be supported by the advanced resources available in your own community at UH Geauga Medical Center.”

The eighth annual Women’s Health Expo will be held at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, LaMalfa, located at 5783 Heisley Road in Mentor. Admission is free but space is limited, so registration is required. To learn more or to register, call UH Geauga Medical Center before Monday, February 3 at 440-285-7757.
