University Hospitals facilities in Ashtabula and Geauga Counties receive 2014 Healthgrades® awards for Pulmonary Care, Patient Experience and Safety

Ashtabula and Geauga Counties – In June, University Hospitals (UH) Geneva, Conneaut and Geauga medical centers were recognized with 2014 Healthgrades® awards for different aspects of the high-quality health care they offer patients in the Northeast Ohio region the hospitals serve. Healthgrades, a pioneer in the measuring and reporting of hospital quality data, is America’s leading online resource for consumers seeking to choose a physician or hospital for care.

UH Geneva Medical Center received the Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™, which recognizes hospitals for low mortality rates and superior outcomes in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia. The hospital also received this award in 2012.

UH Conneaut Medical Center was honored with the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™, which it also received in 2013. This accolade recognizes hospitals for patient satisfaction based on a 27-question survey related to doctor and nurse communication; hospital cleanliness and noise levels; and medication and post-discharge care instructions. Higher patient ratings typically indicate a higher quality of care with a reduced rate of medical errors.

UH Geauga Medical Center in Chardon received the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™. This top-10 percent recognition measures a hospital’s ability to prevent infections, medical errors and other complications based on 14 standard patient safety indicators. On average, patients hospitalized at award-winning hospitals were 52 percent less likely to experience one of the 14 events compared to low-performing hospitals. UH Geauga Medical Center received this award in 2013 as well.

“Our three latest Healthgrades awards reflect our teams’ unified commitment to providing the Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga County region with medical care delivered with the highest quality and uncompromising safety,” says M. Steven Jones, President, UH Geneva, Conneaut and Geauga medical centers.
