Sixth Annual Family Health & Safety Day to be held Saturday, July 12 at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center

Free wellness event begins with “Run 4 the Ages” run and walk

GEAUGA COUNTY – University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center’s sixth annual Family Health & Safety Day will be held on the hospital’s campus, 13207 Ravenna Road in Chardon, on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. The free event will offer wellness screenings and education in collaboration with the hospital’s many community partners.

“Part of our mission at UH Geauga Medical Center is to ensure that our community has access to comprehensive information regarding healthy lifestyles, care and prevention,” says event and screenings coordinator Lou Ann Marx, RN, BSN. “This free event will be educational, inspiring and fun for all ages.”

Family Health & Safety Day wellness screenings include:

• Sports physicals (child must be accompanied by parent or guardian)

• Vascular/stroke risk

• Skin cancer

• Pain

• Orthopaedic

• Hearing

• Memory

• Depression

• Foot assessments

Safety and wellness education stations include:

• Drug take-back program (Geauga County Sheriff’s Department to accept pills and empty syringes)

• Medicare consultations

• Job search assistance provided by Job and Family Services

Safety and wellness demonstrations include:

• Bike

• Water and boating

• Fire safety/fire extinguisher

• Zumba®

“We’re excited to have organizations from Job and Family Services, United Way and the YMCA to Geauga County partners like the Park District, the Health District, the Public Library, the Sheriff’s Department and the Department on Aging on hand to offer resources and assistance to residents,” says Marx.

New this year, “Run 4 the Ages,” a 5k run and walk will take place immediately before the UH Geauga Medical Center Family Health & Safety Day in support of senior services in Geauga County. The 5k race will group runners by age and gender and is open to everyone from children to seniors. “Run 4 the Ages” begins at 9 a.m. at the Library Administration Building bear the hospital, 12701 Ravenwood Drive. Registration fees for the race before July 8 are $15 for adults and $10 for students. “Ultimately, the race and wellness event represent a tremendous opportunity for UH Geauga Medical Center and its community partners to provide important free services and information to everyone in the region – including those who are underserved because of economic factors – and to help them minimize their risks, increase their activity and maximize their wellness,” says M.
