Work Begins On Solon Village Project
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Solon Village project is scheduled for Thursday.
Some work has already begun on Solon Village, the redevelopment of the Solar Shopping Center in the middle of town.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 24.
First up will be construction of a new 12,000-square-foot retail building behind Fifth Third Bank and D.O. Summers.
That building will include a Starbucks with a drive-thru, Menchie's, GNC and Cole Optical. The plan is to have the building complete later this year.
Next, the developers will rip down the south end of the existing plaza, where a new 92,000-square-foot Giant Eagle will be constructed.
Once that store is open, expected in summer 2013, the plan is to tear down portions of the old Giant Eagle and rehab the remaining shopping plaza. The entire plaza is expected to be complete by late 2013.
