Woman and Daughter, 3, Survive After Car Drives Off Bridge
The information in this report is from the Solon Police and Fire Departments.
A 33-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter are lucky to be alive after their car plunged off of U.S. 422 on Tuesday and fell onto Som Center Road.
The woman and her daughter were conscious and alert after the crash, and were transported to Hillcrest Hospital. The mother had some broken bones and the daughter was taken for observation, said Fire Chief William Shaw.
"This is one of the most amazing accidents I've seen in my 28 years," Shaw said.
At about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the woman was driving east on U.S. 422 when she blacked out and lost control of her car. The car travelled between the two bridges over SOM Center Road, and launched off of the hill, flying into a guardrail on Route 91 below.
Shaw said it's a miracle that no one was driving on SOM Center Road. The crash could have been fatal if the car had struck another one.
The daughter was likely saved because she was secure in her carseat, Shaw said.
"I can't stress enough the importance of a car safety seat," he said.
