UPDATE: Bedford Heights Black Bear Spotted In Solon Today

The now famous Bedford Heights bear was spotted in Solon this morning.

WEDNESDAY UPDATE:

Solon Police believe the black bear that was caught in a tree in Bedford Heights on Tuesday was spotted in Solon on Wednesday morning.

The Plain Dealer reports that Solon Police received calls around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday by Solon residents who claimed to see a bear on Richmond Road near Valley Lane.

The bear hasn't been seen since. Solon Police Chief Chris Viland told residents the best thing to do is make sure your children and pets are safe and then leave the bear alone.

A black bear reported to be 6-feet-tall is stuck in a tree in Bedford Heights, just a bit outside the border with Solon.

Authorities are trying to get the bear down safely.

The bear is in a tree at the Rockside Park Apartments on Rockside Road, just passed the intersection with Aurora Road.

Officials told the Plain Dealer that the bear probably got to Bedford Heights from Streetsboro, probably passing through Solon on the way.

Authorities reportedly tried to capture the bear, which became startled and fled up the tree. They've tried to get it down with a fire hose, which didn't work, and now have a bear trap and sweets to lure the bear down.

I hope they can move the poor thing without hurting it. It would be a shame if it lost its life because people don't know how to act.

All they need to do is shoot it with a tranquilizer so that the bear goes to sleep temporarily and then take him back to the wild away from the Bedford Hts/ Solon area. Don't get me wrong, I want no harm to come to the bear however, the public safety is ALWAYS paramount!!
