Solon Buys New Ambulance For $214,181

The purchase is part a regularly scheduled replacement cycle for ambulances.

The Solon City Council approved the purchase of a new ambulance for the fire department on Monday night.

The ambulance, which will cost $214,181, was competitively bid through the state's cooperative purchasing program.

The city will ultimately save money by authorizing the purchase now because prices are expected to jump 20 percent in January.

The city has a 10 year cycle for replacing ambulances. This new rescue vehicle will replace one that was purchased in 2003.

Good news! Now the firefighters will have a new vehicle to drive up to Giant Eagle when they go shopping for their steaks. Yes, they do.

Not only that, but it has always been my understanding that they paid for their meals out of their own pocket. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who runs into a burning building to put out a fire while everyone else is running out, can eat whatever they want. And, some of them are pretty darned good cooks to boot!

Bon Appetit!

if you are stroking out and the driver has to go back and get the ambulance isn't it better they already have it with them.. or you can deliver them their meals..!!..

I don't think everyone understands the reasoning behind taking the squad to the grocery store, or taking the pumper with full crew out to flush hydrants, but its as you said.
