Solon Budget Hearings Begin Tonight

The first of two scheduled budget hearings, in which departments explain their funding requests and plans, is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

The budget process for Solon City Council begins tonight as city departments talk to the council members about their funding needs and other requests.

The hearing is set to begin at 5 p.m. at City Hall with members of the City Council Finance Committee.

Scheduled for tonight is a recap of 2011, an overview of the 2012 financial picture and detailed discussions with the leaders of various departments, including police, fire, service, engineering, public works and water reclamation.

If time permits, the committee also plans to discuss the mayor's office, city hall maintenance and the finance department.

The next budget hearing is slated for 5 p.m. Feb. 14.

Ward 4 Councilman Bill Mooney, who chairs the finance committee, said the meetings are very valuable for council members and residents alike.

We get into a lot of detail about how this city works,” said Ward X Councilman Bill Mooney, who chairs the finance committee.
