Should the Arts Center Move? Councilman Brings Up The Idea
In a Solon Times article, Councilman Bill Russo suggests that the future of the Solon Center for the Arts may be in a new location.
Should the Solon Center for the Arts move to a different location?
That possibility was suggested by Councilman Bill Russo in a Solon Times article about the city returning donations for the patio project planned by former arts director.
At the end of the article, Russo mentioned:
If the art center continues to expand, would we be better with another location to house everything? We were trying to utilize a building that was set up as a city hall for an art center.
Depending on what happens as we move forward, there may be another location better suited for all the programs and everything we may try to do on a bigger scale. Until we get another director in there and have an overall plan for what we will do going forward, it’s just more prudent to hold off doing anything at this time.
What do you think of this idea? Take our poll and then tell us in the comments!

Any proposed facility must also include an auditorium space for concerts, plays, and other theatrical productions.
If this is not in the plans, it's a showstopper in my opinion.
My fear is that the council is trying to get rid of the SCA. I'm usually more optimistic, but when it comes to governments, I'm more - let's say, "realistic."
It really seems to the outside observer that the city is doing everything they can to get rid of the SCA - audit, investigation, Prasser, and now this.
But I hope I'm wrong.

The point Councilman Russo was trying to make is that the proposed stage and brick patio were way too big for the space. I watched the meeting.

Anne, the quote didn't lead me to think the suggestion was limited to a brick patio. It sounds more like he wants to hold off on the patio because the SCA may not stay in its present location. Or maybe it won't be around at all, so why waste the space...

We'll have to wait and see.

The arts department has always been a city department. It does not deserve higher priority than infrastructure or safety services. It can stay where it is. By the way, close down the center at the shopping center. It's unnecessary.

Word on the street is that the city is planning on getting rid of the SCA.
The "proposal" to "move" the SCA because it needs more space is a smokescreen for the real plans to deep-six it.
