The drunken driving checkpoint planned for this Saturday in Solon will be held in the "northwest area" of town, according to Solon Police.

More information, including the exact location and the times for the checkpoints, will be released Saturday.

"We want the public to know that we will be out there for the benefit of the motoring public and pedestrians, working to make our roadways safe,” said Solon Police Sgt. Jamey Hofmann in a news release.

The Solon Police Department reminds drivers to make smart choices if they are going to be drinking:

• designate a driver
• call a cab
• stay at your home or a hotel
• call a friend or family member

The checkpoint is part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign to reduce drunken driving nationwide.
